North Shore Legal Information and Advocacy:

Legal Advocacy Program
The North Shore Legal Advocacy Program provides legal information and assistance on poverty law issues to people on the North Shore with low incomes, mental or physical disabilities, and others who have difficulties accessing legal services. It serves the City of North Vancouver, District of North Vancouver, District of West Vancouver, Bowen Island and Lions Bay.

We can help with issues in the following areas:

  • housing, such as residential tenancy
  • employment standards and Employment Insurance
  • income assistance, including disability and welfare benefits
  • other poverty related issues such as debt

Legal Information and Resources:

  • family law—information on separation and divorce, custody, access, child support and the family law process
  • other legal issues such as wills, estates and personal planning
  • print information in multiple languages
  • computers to access online information

We have produced over 200 Did you know? information sheets on various areas of the law, available at our office in print and on our website: Did you know?

As a community partner with the Legal Services Society (LSS), we can help you get information on applying for legal aid, call the nearest legal aid office, and get free legal information.

To speak with an advocate, please call ahead for an appointment if possible.  You may call the front desk at 604-985-7138.  If the office is closed, the advocate’s extension is 310.

If an advocate is unable to see you as soon as you would like, the front desk staff can provide information and referral.  You can also check out the Did you know? information sheets, including Legal Information and Referral, Legal Representation and Assistance, and Legal Aid.
