Legal :

This program provides legal information, support, referrals and advocacy services for residents of the North Shore (including the city of North Vancouver, District of North Vancouver, District of West Vancouver, Bowen Island and Lions Bay) concerning the following issues:
 
  • Family Law Issues – legal information on separation and divorce, custody, access, child support and the family law process.
  • Residential Tenancy Issues – legal information on the rights and responsibilities of tenants and landlords such as how to challenge an eviction notice, rent increases, requesting repairs and services, and getting your damage deposit back.
  • Income Assistance or Welfare Issues – Applying for Welfare benefits, how to appeal when you are denied benefits, including eligibility for disability benefits for Persons with Disabilities (PWD) and Persons with Persistent and Multiple Barriers to Employment (PPMB).
  • Employment Standards and Employment Insurance Issues.
  • General information on the law and legal resources.
  • Other poverty related issues.
 
A full-time advocate is available to assist people on low income or those with mental or physical disabilities, mental illness, language barriers or those who have other barriers accessing legal services. You can access our services on the phone, by making prior appointments, or just walk into our office. Appointments will take priority during busy times.

In addition we have the following services:
 
  • Over 200 Legal information “Did You Know” fact sheets and articles on various areas of the law and they are on our website (Helps @ Hand)and in print copies which are available at our office.
  • Public legal education brochures and materials
  • Information and assistance to access public legal education material in different languages which is also available at the office.
